To reduce the risks of “Covid-19” spreading the mouth and nose cover must be used in “Rīgas satiksme” public transport

According to government decision as from today, 7th October, the mouth and nose cover must be used in trams, trolleybuses and buses, therefore reducing the risks of “COVID-19” risks as much as possible. In the event of a passenger has no mouth and nose cover, the controllers will request to apply it. Medical, non-medical or hygienic masks and face shields or visors may be used as mouth and nose covers.

All passengers must use mouth and nose cover, except children under age of 13 years. Also it is permitted not to use mouth and nose cover due to medical reasons, for example, if a person has difficulties to apply the mask due to reduced physical capabilities or a person has psychical health disorders.

In public transport it is allowed to use hygienic fabric masks, which can be sewn by yourself, visors (face shields) or disposable medical masks, which can be bought, for example, in pharmacy.

How to use mouth and nose cover?

  • Before applying and removal of face mask wash or disinfect your hands.
  • Face mask shall completely cover the face from nose to chin and it has to fit the face well (nose must not be outside the mask).
  • Do not touch face mask and face, if you haven’t washed your hands.
  • After the use of face mask put it into a packet, not pocket or bag.
  • If you have a fabric mask, wash it in a temperature of at least 60⁰C after each use.
  • Do not use disposable mask for several times – it has to be disposed, before putting it into a packet.
  • If the face mask becomes wet, it has to be replaced by another – clean and dry.
  • The face mask shall not be removed partially (for example, pull to a chin or neck) and used again.
  • When removing the face mask, do not touch its front side.

You can also make nose cover yourself. In such case the face mask shall be made of dense fabric and shall have at least two layers. The mask has to fit the face well, attaching it with bands behind ears or tying around head. At the same time the mask must allow free breathing, must be easy to use and fit well on the face. Must ensure that the mask is easy washable so it can be reused.

To reduce the risk of “COVID-19” spreading everyone needs to be involved, therefore it is important that citizens have as little social contact as possible and use public transport during an emergency only when there is no other alternative.
